Indiana Pacers History
Prior to entering the NBA, the Pacers were part of the American Basketball Association, or ABA. Less than a handful teams from the ABA made it through the merger with the NBA, and the Pacers were one of them. They were dominant in the ABA, but struggled in their first years in the NBA. By the 1980s, they were back in competitive form and have kept up ever since. This era is often remembered because of star George McGinnis.
The Pacers saw a new era begin during the 1987 season when they selected Reggie Miller. Miller quickly brought a spark of excitement to all Pacers games, leading fans to clamor for Indiana Pacers tickets. He set many franchise records during his time with the Pacers, and he remained with the team until he retired in 2005. As a new wave of Pacers emerged, Danny Granger quickly became the new face of the Indiana franchise. The eventual drafting of players such as Paul George and Roy Hibbert, and acquiring guard George Hill, guard/ forward Gerald Green, and veteran forward David West, the Pacers have become an Eastern Conference powerhouse, and will be a serious threat to the likes of Boston, New York, and Miami.
